Common questions and answers.
What is included in your quote?
Our pricing is delivered with a high level of transparency, usually beyond what is called for in project quote sheets. Upon receipt of pricing, it is expected that a through review will be performed so that an understanding of each item and how it lines up with the project documents is established. It is especially important to not carry bottom-line pricing into a project bid without a through understanding of all listed alternates and exclusions.
What is your area of coverage? How far are you willing to travel?
For structural and poured flatwork construction, picture a rough square that has Portland ME in the northeast, Newton MA in the southeast, Orange MA in the southwest and Lebanon NH in the northwest. This shape very roughly encompasses 90 percent of our poured projects. For specialty work, we cover most of the eastern seaboard, from the mid-Atlantic states to northern New England and as far west as Buffalo NY and western PA.
Do you work on Saturdays and Sunday?
With some exceptions, we work during normal business hours during the week. That being said, many projects have specific circumstances that require flexibility. As long as expectations are communicated as part of project scope, arrangements can be made to match most schedules.
What is your safety rating (insurance MOD)?
This changes over time, but we can say here that we have a MOD rate that is well below the industry average and a corresponding safety record of which we are quite proud and willing to discuss in the context of specific jobs.
Is all your labor in-house?
Most of our work is performed by full-time employees of the company. Where reinforcements are necessary due to placement size or compressed schedules, we have a network of highly competent independent contractors with whom we are comfortable partnering.
Can you give me some unit costs?
With most of our established relationships, we are willing to help out with the budget phase and so would be willing to provide guidance in most situations. However, as we usually do not perform work based on unit prices, there should be some expectation that those prices might change if details and quantities change. Obviously, the best way to get accurate pricing is to provide clear drawings and specifications and perform a follow-up scope review.
If your quote does not include materials, can you assist in selecting a concrete materials provider?
Yes. In most areas, we have a readily-available preference for providers based on plant locations, size of the operations, quality of mix from a placing/finishing perspective and most importantly, track record for integrity and scheduling consistency.
Will you provide structural design input on my project?
While we are willing to give feedback on standard practice and suggest certain methods of construction, we cannot provide any structural design input that isn’t going to be independently reviewed and accepted by a licensed engineer. If engineering is needed, we will gladly provide references for some firms with whom we have worked on past projects.
Are you bondable?
Yes we are bondable, due to the intrusive nature of the bonding process the principles usually opt to forego projects that require bonding.
